Facelift
Refine your jawline, lift sagging skin, and look like yourself again.
Is Sagging Neck Skin Affecting How You Feel in Photos or Conversation?

A loss of jawline definition. Sagging around the cheeks and neck. Deepening lines that draw attention in photos or mirrors.
For many, these changes feel misaligned with how they actually feel inside, active, engaged, and confident.
A facelift - or rhytidectomy - restores the lower face and neck’s natural firmness.
Whether you're starting to notice early changes or seeking to reverse more established signs of ageing, modern facelift techniques focus on subtle, tailored improvements, not transformation.
Who We Often Help With This Procedure
We help patients from their 40s to 70s who want to improve facial definition or address ageing without losing their natural character:
1
Those noticing early signs of ageing: Including jowling, neck laxity, or deeper facial lines that no longer respond to non-surgical treatments.
2
Patients who feel their appearance doesn’t match their energy: Often expressing that they look older or more tired than they feel inside.
3
Individuals seeking long-term results: From younger patients wanting subtle maintenance to those ready to move beyond the limits of injectables.
Key detail: The goal isn’t to look “done”, it’s to look refreshed, aligned, and natural.
What Happens at a Facelift Consultation?
Consultation
Your consultation takes place with Mr Ollie Bassett at Tees Valley Hospital.
You’ll discuss how your face has changed over time, what bothers you, and how far you want to go, whether that’s soft maintenance or a more definitive change.
You’ll be assessed for skin laxity, volume loss, muscle tone, and how these interact across the lower face and neck. Facial proportions, asymmetry, and previous procedures (if any) are considered in depth.
A surgical plan is only proposed if you’re a suitable candidate, and if it truly fits your goals.
Questions
You’ll also have the chance to ask personal questions, we will ensure we answer all of them.
We’ll walk through techniques, scar placement, anaesthetic options, and downtime. You’ll also learn how facelifts compare to non-surgical options, and whether a mini or full facelift is best suited to your anatomy.
By the end of the consultation, you’ll have a detailed understanding of what’s possible, and what’s realistic — so you can make your decision with confidence.

What We’ll Discuss Around Safety, Scarring & Recovery

Scars are carefully placed along the hairline, in front of and behind the ear, and sometimes under the chin.
We’ll show you these locations and explain how they fade. We’ll also cover:
- Expected downtime: 1 week (mini facelift) or 2–3 weeks (SMAS facelift)
- How to manage swelling and bruising
- What to avoid during healing
- Use of dressings, compression, or scar care (if required)
Results continue to improve for 3–6 months, with natural definition settling in as swelling fades. Your face won’t look “tight”, just more refined, rested, and true to you.
A Tailored Approach: Not a One-Size-Fits-All Surgery
Always Bespoke
Your facelift is designed around your goals, skin elasticity, facial structure, and personal pace of ageing. No templates. No “cookie cutter” tightening.
We consider:
- Age and skin quality
- Volume loss and where it sits
- Desired longevity and downtime
- Whether a mini or full SMAS facelift is more appropriate
- Neck involvement and muscle laxity
- Previous treatments and how the face has aged over time
Example Techniques
We will of course ensure the best technique for your need is choosen.
- SMAS Facelift – addresses muscle and connective tissue for long-lasting results
- Mini Facelift – ideal for younger patients or subtle refinement
- Neck Lift – often combined to improve jawline and under-chin area
- Fat Grafting – may be used to restore lost midface volume
- Endoscopic or short-scar approaches – used when appropriate
All methods will be discussed openly, with realistic visuals and timelines.
